Our tips

Own it before explaining

A “sorry, that's on me” at the top beats an explanation that reads as an excuse. Circumstances can follow, in one sentence at most.

Offer the next step

An apology that stops at regret leaves the other person to sort things out. A time slot, a callback, a concrete fix shows the intent goes past the message.

Your frequently asked questions

Should I apologise by text or in person?

For lateness or a lapse, a text is enough and reassures straight away. For a serious falling-out, the message opens the door — the conversation itself belongs face to face.

Does an apology need to be long?

No. Two clear sentences — the mistake owned, the next step offered — carry more weight than a paragraph hunting for mitigating circumstances.
