"Did they actually get it?" With a free SMS sent from the web, the question deserves an honest answer: the service confirms the send, but no read receipt makes its way back to you. Here is what being free really gives you — and what it doesn't promise.
Send confirmed is not read confirmed
The standard SMS, free or paid, sends back no read receipt in the sense of modern messaging apps. There is a technical delivery report at the network level, but at best it indicates that an operator has taken charge of the message — never that a human has opened it.

What the free service guarantees
